DVO Dirt Map
From Release : 2018.1

DVO Dirt Map is an advanced dust and dirt concealer, also capable of repairing other blemishes in film. It will use Infra-Red (IR) data taken from the alpha channel of the film clip as a hit signal.

Use the Enable button to enable/disable the tool :

Dirt Viewer

Dvo-dirtmap-view.png

Use the View dropdown to visualise the IR channel and parameter setup.

Disable

This is the default state and will show the result of processing with the set parameters,

Target Dirt Map

Paint the image red where the DVO Dirt Map has interpreted the IR channel as dirt.

This is a good way to begin while setting the tool up.

Processed Difference

Paint the image red where the DVO Dirt Map has processed the image.

The greater the red intensity, the more difference versus the source image.

Detection
Dirt Mode

Dvo-dirtmap dirt mode.png

This defines how to interpret the dirt map alpha :

  • As dark dirt on bright background
  • As bright dirt on a dark background

Auto Auto-detect
Dirt on White Bright background
Dirt on Black Dark background

Image Separation

Dvo-dirtmap imageseparation.png

Film with high density may leave traces in the alpha channel making the IR channel less useful. Enabling this will filter out the source image from the IR channel.

Enable Filter out picture content
Disable Use IR channel as-is.
Default
Amount

Dvo-dirtmap amount.png

This parameter sets the contrast amplitude of the dirt in the IR channel.

If set to high the hit signal can be considered unsafe and turn off any processing.

Use the Dirt View / Target Dirt Map to tune the parameter.

Range 0-1.0
Default 0.75

Speck Reduction

Dvo-dirtmap speckreduction.png

This parameter will filter out false positives e.g. tiny objects from the IR channel that might not be dirt.

Use the Dirt View / Target Dirt Map to tune the parameter.

Range 0-1.0
Default 0

Grow

Dvo-dirtmap grow.png

This will increase the IR channel dirt signal to process slightly outside of the defined hit.

Use the Dirt View / Target Dirt Map to tune the parameter.

Range 0-1.0
Default 0.75
Cut Safety

Dvo-dirtmap safety.png

Cut Safety will reduce false positives around scene cuts by increasing the safety algorithms on the nearby frames.

The Mode option lets you choose to enable or disable this safety setting, or decide to not process the frame nearest the scene cut.

Range 0-1.0
Default 0.75

The Mode can be :

Disabled Normal processing at scene cuts
Enabled Cut safety Enabled. Default
Bypass First and last frame of scene will not be processed.

Region of Interest

Dvo-dirtmap roi.png

The Region of Interest (ROI) lets you prevent the processing of parts of the picture.

A requirement might be avoiding processing sprockets if the material is overscanned.
