Colourist Mats Holmgren honoured at Guldbagge 2015

Digital Vision congratulates colourist Mats Holmgren on winning the Särskilda Insatser or ‘Special Efforts’ award at the 2015 Guldbagge Awards. The event, which is Sweden’s leading film awards ceremony, took place on 26 January 2015 at the Circus Arena in Stockholm.

Holmgren, a longtime user of Nucoda colour grading tools, has worked on many feature films and TV movies including Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Let The Right One In and Control. The award recognises his artistry and creativity in a key but often unsung area of film making.

The jury said:

“Many of the creative efforts of the team behind the film are rather anonymous and certainly unknown to the audience. With today’s digital post-production process, the function of colourist has become increasingly important. When films are made in many different formats it is the colourist’s role to keep the cinematic vision intact throughout the process. The winner has an artistic view that is both analogue and digital – he plays his grading suite like a Stradivarius, some call him a genius. [Holmgren] has completed digital grading on hundreds of movies – and this year alone he has had time to complete Hey Hey, My So-Called father, Flugparken, Stockholm Stories, Tommy and Gentlemen.”
